Inside the First Showing of Melania Trump’s Not-a-Documentary Documentary

Former first lady Melania Trump made it clear at the premiere of her new film that it should not be labelled a documentary. Some have called this a documentary. It is not,” she said while addressing an audience of Cabinet members, conservative influencers, and invited guests at the opera house of the newly rebranded Trump Kennedy Center on Thursday evening. “It is a creative experience that offers perspectives, insights and moments.”

Titled Melania, the film has been more than a year in the making and highlights a short but significant period surrounding Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Along with its debut, the project has drawn attention to the growing business opportunities tied to the role of first lady.

According to a source familiar with the deal, Trump signed an agreement worth $40 million with Amazon MGM Studios, supported by an additional $35 million marketing budget. When asked how she would measure the film’s success, Trump dismissed traditional benchmarks such as box office figures or streaming numbers. For her, the outcome was already clear. She later added that the goal had already been met. “We achieved what we wanted to achieve. For myself, it’s already successful.
