The UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has announced the start of a program to boost agricultural advisory services’ (agricultural extension’s) efficiency as part of its endeavours to boost agricultural output and strengthen the country’s food security. The program’s objectives are to advance agricultural extension agents’ professional capacities and skill sets and guiding staff. Additionally, it aims to strengthen their communication abilities so they can exchange cutting-edge farming methods and technology and boost output.
The program includes specialised training sessions on soil and irrigation, crop and vegetable production, fruit production, pest prevention and control, beekeeping, and honey production. Lectures and workshops are also included to improve the technical proficiency and competence of agricultural extension agents. The program also includes field courses, offering chances to use theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting, improve confidence, and develop communication skills.
“The agricultural extension efficiency improvement program comes as part of our ongoing commitment to support the sustainability of national farms in the UAE aimed at reinforcing and growing the sector in the future,” stated Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Under-Secretary of MOCCAE’s Food Diversity Sector. The program’s goal is to provide all agricultural extension agents with a specialised path that covers the key areas in the industry.
