Apple Officials Discussed Purchasing Perplexity Internally

According to Bloomberg News on Friday, which cited sources with knowledge of the situation, Apple officials have discussed internally the possibility of bidding for the artificial intelligence firm Perplexity. According to the article, the executives of the IT giant have not discussed a proposal with Perplexity’s management, and the talks are still in their early stages and could not result in an offer.

In response to Reuters’ request for comment, Perplexity stated, “We are not aware of any ongoing or upcoming MA discussions involving Perplexity.” Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Large tech businesses are increasing their investments to improve AI capabilities and meet the rising demand for AI-powered services to stay competitive in the quickly changing IT sector. On Friday, Bloomberg News also revealed that Meta Platforms attempted to purchase Perplexity earlier this year.

Last week, Meta revealed a $14.8 billion investment in Scale AI and appointed Alexandr Wang, the CEO of Scale AI, to head its new superintelligence division. According to the article, Apple’s head of mergers and acquisitions, Adrian Perica, discussed the proposal with senior AI decision-makers and services chief Eddy Cue.
