According to Ukraine’s President Zelensky, Vladimir Putin “will keep driving the war forward wider and deeper” if he is not stopped. At the UN General Assembly in New York, Zelensky warned that unless friends unified and increased support, more nations might face Russian invasion.
As military technology develops, he said that all countries are at risk of a global arms race, saying that “weapons decide who survives” and advocating for international regulations on artificial intelligence.
He made these remarks after US President Donald Trump changed his stance on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, stating for the first time that Ukraine could retake all of its territory.
Accusing international organisations of being “too weak” to provide Ukraine with safety assurances, Zelensky added—ostensibly referring to NATO that membership in a long-standing military alliance “doesn’t automatically mean you are safe. Our species is now living under the most destructive arms race in human history,” he stated.
“Stopping Russia now” was more cost-effective, he claimed, than “wondering who will be the first to create a simple drone carrying a nuclear warhead” Zelensky stated that the development of unmanned aircraft and autonomous drones posed a considerably bigger risk than conventional combat and asked for international regulations regarding AI and its use in weapons.
