Trump May Travel to Turkey to Attend Talks Between Russia and Ukraine

As the US increases pressure on Moscow and Kyiv to end the three-year conflict, US President Donald Trump has stated that he is amenable to attending the possible peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey on Thursday.

For his first foreign trip since the beginning of his second term, Trump is travelling to the Gulf this week, stopping in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. “If I thought it would be helpful,” he remarked, he could divert to Turkey.

On Monday, Trump told reporters at the White House, “I think you might have a good outcome out of the Thursday meeting between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey.” I have a lot of meetings on Thursday, so I’m not sure where I’ll be, but I was considering taking a plane there. If I believe things can happen, I suppose there is a chance.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, endorsed Trump’s demand for direct negotiations between himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin and stated shortly after that his nation “would appreciate” Trump’s visit. In his evening speech, Zelensky stated, “We would like President Trump to find the opportunity to be in Turkey, and it is essential that he fully supports the meeting.
