The Huge Beautiful’ Tax plan that Trump is Pressuring Republicans to Support

Despite a last-minute, in-person presentation to House Republicans on Tuesday, the future of US President Donald Trump’s flagship budget proposal is still dubious. Trump left the cosy White House for the much noisier Capitol Hill, where he attempted to unite fractious elements of his party to support his “big, beautiful” package.

The package, which includes around $4.9 trillion (€3.7 trillion) in tax benefits, has caused disagreements among certain members over changes to healthcare and tax deductions.

Trump is increasing pressure on Republicans to endorse it so that it can be enacted by May 26. Moderates are fiercely opposing certain Republican hardliners who are calling for further cutbacks.

Lines to enter several legislative buildings stretched for blocks, making it clear that something significant was occurring on Capitol Hill. Trump was a distinguished visitor, as evidenced by that and the Secret Service personnel rushing about the corridors.

Even though several House Republicans agreed with Trump’s presentation, not all of them were enthusiastic and prepared to back the plan when they left the meeting. Before moving on to the Senate, where Republicans have their own concerns about the proposal, the plan must still receive a full House vote. After meeting with House Republicans, Trump addressed reporters, downplaying the disapproval of certain conservatives.
