As Prime Minister Keir Starmer attempts to revive the economy, the government said Tuesday that online retailer Amazon would spend £40 billion ($54 billion) in the UK over the next three years.
The news “adds another major win to Britain’s basket and is a massive vote of confidence in the UK as the best place to do business,” according to Starmer, who met with Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, last week. Thousands of new jobs will be created, allowing individuals nationwide to further their careers, pick up new skills, and provide for their families.
“Whether it’s cutting-edge AI or same-day delivery, this deal shows that our Plan for Change is working, bringing in investment, driving growth, and putting more money in people’s pockets,” he stated.
The £40 billion will be used to rehabilitate the historic Bray Film Studios, which was purchased in July 2024, and construct four distribution facilities, generating an estimated 4,000 jobs.
Amazon and Games Workshop, the British firm that owns the rights to “Warhammer 40,000,” inked a deal in December to create TV shows and films based on the future fantasy world. Superman and The Witcher actor Henry Cavill will play the lead in the project.
