RIYADH: NEOM has signed a joint venture agreement with Samsung C&T Corp. to accelerate the development and deployment of construction automation technology in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
This strategic relationship will result in an initial expenditure of around SR1.3 billion ($350 million) in construction robotics. The partnership comes just one week after NEOM struck a separate agreement with GMT Robotics to accelerate the delivery of its ambitious projects.<\/p>\n
According to the release, the collaboration with Samsung C&T will center on automating rebar cage construction through sophisticated robotic welding and tying techniques. This breakthrough intends to enable the production of massive, pre-manufactured reinforcing cages, which are an essential component in construction.<\/p>\n
Rebar cages are crucial tension devices used in concrete to produce reinforced structures, which add strength to infrastructure projects. “Sustainability is a fundamental principle at NEOM, guiding what we develop and how we build it. By automating labor-intensive operations with robotics, we are pushing the boundaries of construction innovation,” stated Majid Mufti, CEO of the NEOM Investment Fund.<\/p>\n
