DP World, a worldwide trade and logistics giant, has chosen Mota-Engil, a well-known and experienced construction company, to manage the development of the Banana Port, a critical project that will improve the DRC’s position as a crucial trading hub. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the implementation of the Banana Port project, which is expected to revolutionize the country’s trading scene by delivering cutting-edge infrastructure, lowering business costs, and strengthening the DRC’s economic independence.<\/p>\n
The Banana Port, located on the Atlantic coast in Kongo Central province, is a significant investment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo infrastructure. As the DRC’s sole marine gateway for containerized cargo, it will expedite trade processes, consolidate all administrative and customs operations, and improve the government’s visibility and control over foreign trade operations.<\/p>\n
The Banana Port will be built in stages, with the first phase designed to accommodate the world’s largest vessels and containing a 600-meter quay, a handling capacity of 450,000 TEUs per year, and 30 hectares of storage space. The second phase will expand the quay wall by more than two kilometers. The port is a DP World investment with participation from British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance organization and impact investor.<\/p>\n
