US equities have plummeted since Trump announced his tariffs at Wednesday afternoon’s White House Rose Garden ceremony, with hints that America’s trading partners – most notably Canada, the European Union, and China – are not backing down from a confrontation.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the White House appeared to be bracing for a storm. Four large posters depicting America’s “reciprocal” tariffs on a long number of countries were prominently displayed in the press briefing room, but government officials who could answer media queries were few and far between.<\/p>\n
Workers unloaded pallets of metal fencing that will surround the White House grounds in preparation for what officials expect to be a big anti-Trump rally at the nearby Washington Monument on Saturday.
