President Donald Trump has warned Beijing that a new round of tariffs will be imposed if It does not reverse its most recent retaliatory action\u2014an aggressive 34% increase in U.S. export duties. Trump issued a firm deadline of April 8 and threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Chinese imports the following day if they didn’t comply.<\/p>\n
Trump scathingly posted on Truth Social that China had added a new 34% retaliatory tariff on top of what he described as “record-setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long-term Currency Manipulation.” He warned that any nation that retaliated against the United States by imposing extra tariffs would be instantly hit with new and significantly greater tariffs.<\/p>\n
He said that “the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” unless Beijing retreated by April 8. Additionally, Trump threatened to halt negotiations, saying, “We will end all discussions with China about their desired meetings with us!<\/p>\n
The White House rejected rumors of a short-term halt in tariff policy and supported the president’s position. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called speculations that Trump would postpone additional tariffs for 90 days “false news.<\/p>\n
