US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that iPhones sold in the US should be made in the US or else they would be subject to a high 25% tax if they are made in India or another country. The US president made a similar comment a week prior, cautioning Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, against increasing Apple’s manufacturing presence in India unless it is especially for the Indian market.<\/p>\n
Trump stated in his most recent post on Truth Social on Friday, “I have long since told Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America to be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else.” If not, Apple is required to pay a minimum 25% tariff to the United States. During a business gathering in Doha, Qatar, last week on May 15, Trump claimed to have spoken directly with Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, and advised him against growing Apple’s manufacturing presence in India unless it was exclusively for the Indian market.<\/p>\n
Trump has previously stated, “Told Apple CEO Tim Cook we’re not interested in you building in India, they can take care of themselves. Additionally, Trump had declared that Apple would expand its manufacturing in the US. He continued by saying, “Apple will be increasing their production in the United States.<\/p>\n
