Republicans in the United States House of Representatives moved President Donald Trump’s big tax-cut and spending measure to a final yes-or-no vote early Thursday morning, appearing to overcome internal party disagreements about its cost.<\/p>\n
During a long midnight session, legislators passed the final procedural obstacle required to begin discussion on the measure in a 219-213 vote about 3:30 a.m. . It was unclear when they would hold the final vote.<\/p>\n
As morning rose in Washington, the senior House Democrat, Hakeem Jeffries, was halfway through an hours-long speech in which he attacked the package as a gift to the wealthiest Americans, naming Republican members by name.<\/p>\n
This one big, ugly bill\u00a0 this irresponsible Republican budget\u00a0 \u00a0this terrible atrocity is not about increasing the quality of life of the American people,” he continued, making a stinging allusion to Trump’s hallmark legislation, One Big Beautiful Bill.<\/p>\n
