The Indian airline announced on Friday that an Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco made a precautionary landing in the Russian region of Siberia after the crew discovered a potential problem in the cargo hold area. It was the second time in a little more than a year that an Air India flight on the same route unexpectedly landed in Russia.<\/p>\n
According to a statement on social media platform X, the Boeing 777, which was carrying 225 passengers and 19 flight crew, landed safely at Krasnoyarsk International Airport. The airline is arranging a replacement flight to San Francisco.<\/p>\n
Shortly after the incident, Russia’s civil aviation agency, Rosaviatsiya, stated on the Telegram messaging app that the aircraft had taxied to a parking spot after landing and that there were no signs of fire or smoke on board.<\/p>\n
Krasnoyarsk International Airport did not immediately respond to a Reuters inquiry. Boeing and a State Department spokesperson referred all questions about the incident to Air India.<\/p>\n
Last June, an Air India Boeing plane on the same route became stranded for a day after reporting a technical problem. Passengers on that flight were housed in makeshift quarters at Russia’s remote Magadan airport.<\/p>\n
