Spain demanded a clear timeline for the international community to implement a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. On Friday, Spain hosted a high-level meeting of several Muslim and European countries to discuss ways to end the Gaza war.<\/p>\n
“We’re here to push for the cessation of hostilities between the Israelis and Palestinians, as well as for a solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza… It is obvious in that way. Jose Manuel Albares, the foreign minister of Spain, told reporters that “the implementation of the two-state solution is the only way.”<\/p>\n
Jos\u00e9p Borrell, the head of EU foreign policy, his counterparts from Norway and Slovenia, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, and members of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group for Gaza, which consists of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey.<\/p>\n
The participants, who notably do not include Israel, Albares said showed “a clear willingness” “to move on from words to actions and to make strides towards a clear schedule for the effective implementation” of a two-state solution, beginning with Palestine’s admission to the UN.<\/p>\n
Although Albares stated that “we will be delighted to see Israel at any table where peace and the two-state solution are discussed,” Israel was not invited because it was not a contact group member.<\/p>\n
