In Q4 FY25, Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Bharti Airtel reported a modest 0.1% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) increase in sales to Rs 36,735 crore. Prior to this, Reliance Jio announced a 2.3% QoQ increase in revenue, outpacing Airtel and indicating an industry-leading revenue growth.
Even with Airtel’s consistent expansion in the postpaid and home broadband markets, competitor Reliance Jio continues to lead in a number of important performance indicators.
In addition, Jio added 5 times as many active customers in FY25 (20.6 million) as Airtel (4.3 million in Q4 FY24). Jio has 488.2 million customers overall, compared to 424 million for Airtel.
Jio was once again the undisputed leader in terms of consumer engagement. In comparison, Airtel’s per capita data usage increased 11.1% YoY to 25.1 GB/month, while its increased 17.4% YoY to 33.5 GB/month. Jio saw a 3% increase in voice usage, while Airtel remained stagnant with only 0.4% YoY growth. Jio leads in both heavy data consumption and customer engagement.
The fixed-line market is another area where Jio is clearly dominant. In FY25, Jio built 6.4 million new residences compared to 2.4 million for Airtel. Jio attracted 5 million users in the rapidly expanding Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) market, while Airtel added 1.1 million. In the fixed-line market, Jio is surpassing Airtel by a factor of two to five.
