Nasser Basma on Côte d’Ivoire’s growing motorcycle market

We started the interview by asking, “Please introduce yourself and how do you see the current state of the motorcycle industry in Côte d’Ivoire?”

Nasser BASMA replied, “My name is Nasser BASMA, Executive Chairman of MEGAMONDE HOLDING and CEO of MEGAMONDE-CI. For over 30 years, I have dedicated my life to building a strong and trusted presence in the motorcycle industry across West Africa. What began in 1995 with a small trading business in Burkina Faso has grown into a diversified industrial group with operations in Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Hong Kong, and beyond.
Since 2019, MEGAMONDE-CI has been actively contributing to the development of Côte d’Ivoire’s motorcycle sector bringing not only high-quality vehicles and spare parts to the market but also creating jobs, supporting local entrepreneurship, and offering long-term technical solutions. With our in-house brand CITI, developed in partnership with major Chinese manufacturers, and exclusive representation of renowned global brands like Honda, Vespa, and Piaggio, we are proud to combine local relevance with international standards.
The motorcycle industry in Côte d’Ivoire is expanding quickly, driven by population growth, urban traffic, and the need for affordable transportation. Motorcycles are now essential for daily movement, especially in secondary cities and rural areas. However, there are still challenges many bikes are imported without proper quality control, spare parts are inconsistent, and safety standards need strengthening. That’s where MEGAMONDE makes a real difference. With over 30 years of experience, we bring structure and professionalism to the sector. We offer high-quality, certified motorcycles and ensure reliable after-sales service. Our goal is to raise industry standards by offering solutions that are not just commercial, but sustainable. We are committed to contributing to the formalization and modernization of this essential sector in Côte d’Ivoire.”

Blending local insight with global standards

What makes MEGAMONDE-CI stand out in the Ivorian market?

Nasser BASMA replied, “MEGAMONDE-CI is not just a distributor we are an experienced industry leader with deep roots in West Africa. What makes us unique is our full-service model. We don’t just sell motorcycles we assemble, maintain, and support them. Our own brand, CITI, is designed specifically for local road conditions and offers exceptional durability and fuel efficiency. We also represent top international brands like Honda and Vespa, giving customers a wide range of reliable options. But beyond products, it’s our service that truly sets us apart. We provide real after-sales support, supply authentic spare parts, and invest in technician training. Over the years, we’ve built strong partnerships with local businesses and communities. Customers trust us because we’ve proven our commitment to quality, consistency, and long-term support. In a market flooded with low-cost, unreliable imports, MEGAMONDE-CI stands as a trusted, professional alternative.”

Creating Value beyond Transportation

What impact has MEGAMONDE had on the local economy in Côte d’Ivoire?

Nasser BASMA replied, “MEGAMONDE’s presence in Côte d’Ivoire has created real economic value. First, we’ve generated direct and indirect jobs—ranging from warehouse staff and assembly technicians to sales agents and mechanics. We also work closely with delivery services, taxi-moto operators, and small business owners, giving them reliable tools to earn a living. Additionally, we invest in local capacity building by training mechanics and service providers to meet professional standards. This ensures motorcycles remain safe and efficient over time. Our spare parts distribution system also supports a wide network of resellers and workshop owners. In short, we are helping to formalize and strengthen the motorcycle value chain. MEGAMONDE doesn’t just bring products we bring structure, employment, and sustainable business models that contribute to the national economy in a meaningful way.”

Consistent Quality in Every Ride

How do you maintain quality and trust in a market full of low-cost imports?

Nasser BASMA replied, “Maintaining quality is at the core of our identity. We never compromise on standards. At MEGAMONDE, every product we distribute is carefully selected, tested, and backed by strong warranties. Our flagship CITI motorcycles are manufactured in collaboration with trusted Chinese partners like KAMAX and QINGQI, who meet international certifications. We choose performance over price ensuring the bikes can withstand local road conditions and heavy usage. Additionally, we guarantee access to genuine spare parts and offer post-sale technical support, which most importers cannot provide. Customers know they can count on us for both product longevity and service reliability. That trust has taken decades to build, and it’s what keeps us competitive. In markets like Côte d’Ivoire where quality often varies, our reputation is everything and we protect it through consistent excellence.”

Locally Designed Globally Trusted

Can you tell us more about the CITI brand and its relevance in Côte d’Ivoire?

Nasser BASMA replied, “CITI is our pride an in-house motorcycle brand born from over two decades of experience in the West African market. We created CITI to address the unique needs of local riders: durable engines, fuel efficiency, easy maintenance, and a competitive price point. Each model is assembled with care and tested to match the road conditions of Côte d’Ivoire and surrounding countries. Whether used for delivery, transport, or private commuting, CITI bikes are known for their resilience and value. What also makes the brand special is our ability to provide full after-sales service, something not many competitors can offer. CITI is more than just a product it’s a promise of performance and support. It reflects our belief that African markets deserve quality brands that are made for them, not just imported without consideration.

Strengthening the Industry Locally

How does MEGAMONDE support technicians, mechanics, and small businesses in Côte d’Ivoire?

Nasser BASMA replied, “Supporting local ecosystems is a key part of our mission. At MEGAMONDE, we don’t just sell motorcycles we empower the people who maintain and rely on them. We offer training programs for technicians and mechanics to help them understand our models and provide better service to customers. We also supply them with genuine parts and tools to ensure long-term maintenance quality. For small businesses, we provide flexible supply options and business-to-business partnerships. Whether it’s a delivery startup or a rural transport operator, we work to understand their needs and build lasting solutions. We’ve created a reliable support network that extends beyond the sale, building trust and long-term impact. In doing so, we help create income opportunities, reduce downtime for riders, and contribute to a healthier, more structured industry.”

Driving Regional Transformation

Lastly we asked, “What is your vision for MEGAMONDE-CI and the future of the motorcycle industry in the region?”

My vision is clear: to make MEGAMONDE-CI the leading name in sustainable mobility across West Africa. In Côte d’Ivoire, our next steps include expanding our dealer and service network, increasing local assembly capacity, and introducing more fuel-efficient and possibly electric models. We believe the future lies in responsible innovation motorcycles that are safer, cleaner, and better adapted to African cities. At the same time, we want to continue investing in people by training local talent, supporting entrepreneurship, and working closely with government partners to improve industry standards. Our goal is not just to grow, but to lead by example. After 30 years, we’re still evolving—and we’re committed to making MEGAMONDE a symbol of quality, trust, and industrial pride in Côte d’Ivoire and beyond.” Nasser BASMA concluded
