In a recent incident in the Gaza Strip, at least 50 individuals lost their lives due to an Israeli bombardment in a refugee camp. The health ministry in Gaza reported that the strike resulted in over 50 fatalities and approximately 150 injuries, with many still believed to be trapped under the debris.
The incident took place in the Jabalia camp located in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Video footage from the scene depicted the aftermath of the strike, with 47 bodies being retrieved from the debris. The footage also showed large craters caused by the bombardment, with local residents and onlookers gathering around in search of survivors.
Ragheb Aqal, a local resident of Jabalia, likened the impact of the strikes to “an earthquake”, emphasizing the extensive damage it caused to the refugee camp. He recounted witnessing significant destruction, with numerous homes reduced to rubble and a high number of casualties.
The health ministry further stated that since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, the total number of casualties in the Gaza Strip has risen to 8,525. The conflict began following attacks originating from Gaza on Israeli communities and military outposts, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,400 individuals, as per Israeli sources.
The Israeli military has yet to release a statement regarding the recent strikes in the Jabalia camp.
