This autumn, Apple intends to roll out significant updates to its original smartwatch line, the “Series” models, in honour of the Apple Watch’s tenth anniversary.
These updates, according to a Bloomberg report, include slimmer profiles and larger displays, but the overall design will stay the same. The N217 and N218 codenames for the Series 10 will have screens similar in size to those of the Apple Watch Ultra. However, there won’t be any major design changes made to the Ultra, which was only updated in 2022.
Both the Series 10 and the new Ultra 3 will have an upgraded chip under the hood, which might pave the way for additional AI improvements in the future. But the upcoming AI features from Apple Intelligence will only work with the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and eventually the Vision Pro—not the Apple Watch at first.
Whether these watches are released as anniversary models or with a more lavish launch in 2025, Apple’s branding strategy is still unknown. With the original Apple Watch being revealed in 2014 but released in 2015, the company was able to celebrate its anniversary more flexibly.
