25 people were injured in a Saturday explosion that destroyed a pub in Madrid, three of them were critically hurt, according to Spanish authorities, who also ruled out the possibility that further victims were buried beneath the debris.
Madrid emergency services posted footage of the bar’s partially collapsed ceiling and bricks scattered on the ground on X, announcing that firefighters were cleaning debris at the location in the Vallecas neighborhood of the capital.
Fernando Sanchez, a witness, told public station RTVE from his home, “We were at home when we felt the explosion, and we ran out immediately. It was absolute chaos, with people in the middle trying to move cars.”
Authorities were prohibiting residents from going outdoors, according to Sanchez, and there were police officers, fire engines, and ambulances everywhere. According to Spanish media, the explosion was caused by a gas leak. However, Madrid Town Hall’s security and emergency officer, Inmaculada Sanz, stated that it was “too early to venture what may have been the cause.
