A bus carrying workers overturned in Khorfakkan on Sunday night due to a brake failure, killing nine of the 83 Asian and Arab passengers.
In collaboration and coordination with the relevant authorities, specialized Sharjah Police teams arrived at the accident scene in record time, rescued 73 passengers, administered first aid to the injured, and transported them to hospitals for the required medical treatment.
The operations center at Sharjah Police got a report on Sunday evening regarding a bus carrying workers overturning in Wadi Washi Square, which is located at the entrance to Khorfakkan City, according to Brigadier Dr. Ali Al Kai Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department.
He claimed that when national ambulance teams, specialized police, and civil defense teams raced to the scene of the accident, they discovered that some of the passengers had died and others had been hurt.
Al Hamoudi noted that the crews immediately began rescuing the injured, who had suffered several wounds, and administering the required first aid before transporting them to hospitals for more thorough medical treatment.
According to preliminary investigations, the accident was mostly caused by the bus brakes failing, he said, adding that the driver lost control and the bus toppled at the right departure of the entrance to Khorfakkan.
