A Deadly New Russian Missile and Drone Attack Strikes Kyiv

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was the target of a major nocturnal Russian strike that killed at least two people and injured sixteen more, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky noted that the attack, which mostly targeted the capital, included 18 missiles and around 400 drones.

According to Kyiv authorities, flames raged around the city and drone debris struck the roof of a residence in the downtown Shevchenkivskyi neighbourhood. Air defences activated, explosions echoed, and drones and missiles focused on the city, disrupting residents’ sleep for three hours. Social media footage of explosions in the night sky has not yet been confirmed by the BBC.

It came after 13 cruise or ballistic missiles and 728 drones hit cities around Ukraine on Tuesday night in what Ukraine called the worst Russian aircraft assault. Ukraine’s police said early Thursday morning that eight areas in Kyiv had been struck by Russian drones.

Tymur Tkachenko, the chairman of the administration, said on Telegram that “residential buildings, vehicles, warehouses, offices, and non-residential buildings are burning.” The deaths of a 68-year-old woman and a 22-year-old police officer at a metro station were confirmed by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
