Following an investigation by counter-terrorism investigators into three fires, including one at Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s private residence, British police said on Tuesday that they had detained a 21-year-old man on suspicion of arson.
Early on Monday morning, police received reports of a fire at the residence in Kentish Town, north London, Starmer’s parliamentary district. According to the authorities, the property’s entryway sustained damage, but no one was hurt.
According to police, the individual was taken into custody early Tuesday on suspicion of arson with intent to harm life with the fire and two further occurrences. They stated that he is still in detention.
Police are investigating whether the Monday incident is connected to a car fire in Kentish Town on Thursday and a fire at the door of a building in adjacent Islington on Sunday. When Starmer became prime minister in July, he moved into Number 10 Downing Street, leaving the terraced house on a back street where he resided with his wife and two kids.
According to authorities, officers from London’s Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command were leading the inquiry because the property had ties to a well-known public figure.
