A King Praises the Spirit of Unity” as the UK Commemorates the London 7/7 Attacks

Monday marked the 20th anniversary of the July 7 bombings in London, which claimed 52 lives. King Charles III of the United Kingdom honoured the togetherness displayed following the tragedy.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Prime Minister Keir Starmer lay wreaths at the July 7 monument in the capital’s Hyde Park at 8:50 a.m. (0750 GMT) to commemorate the first bomb’s detonation. Four domestic extremists killed scores and injured hundreds when they set off suicide bombs on three subway trains and a bus in central London on July 7, 2005.

Members of the royal family are anticipated to attend commemorations with survivors, grieving family members, and emergency services professionals as part of the city’s anniversary celebrations. In the wake of the attack, the monarch called on everyone to emulate the “extraordinary courage and compassion” displayed.

In a statement released by the domestic Press Association news agency, he added, “We remember with profound sadness the 52 innocent people who were killed in senseless acts of evil  and the enduring grief of their loved ones. While doing so, we should also keep in mind the innumerable tales of remarkable bravery and kindness that arose from that day’s gloom.
