Following a technical issue, an Air India Express aircraft from Kozhikode, India, to Doha was rerouted soon after takeoff on Wednesday morning, according to Indian media sources. On Wednesday, July 23, Flight IX375 left Kozhikode at roughly 9 a.m., but as a precaution, it returned to the base airport two hours later. There were 188 people on board the Boeing 737, including the crew and pilots.
A representative for Air India Express informed India Today that a technical problem caused the flight to return to Kozhikode after takeoff. The flight left for Doha shortly after an alternate aircraft was prioritized and refreshments were given to the passengers during the wait. “We regret the inconvenience and reiterate that safety remains our top priority in every aspect of our operations,” said a spokesperson.
It was a “precautionary landing” due to a technical problem with the aircraft’s cabin air conditioning system, according to the Economic Times. “It was not an emergency landing,” they cited an official as saying. On July 18, flight IX 346, which was supposed to leave Dubai at 9 a.m., started boarding around 8:15 a.m. However, passengers reported a long and excruciating wait on the tarmac, without air conditioning, and with no information, as their dissatisfaction mounted.
