A Gulf national was sentenced to three months in prison and had his driver’s license banned for six months by a Dubai criminal court for driving while under the influence of drugs and psychotropic substances, possessing a number of them, and damaging other people’s property. The incident began in February 2024 when the Dubai Police’s Operations Room received a report of a significant collision on Emirates Road.
When a police officer arrived at the scene of the accident, he reported seeing a car that had crashed into a concrete barrier and overturned. He allegedly discovered ten psychotropic medication tablets and a blood-stained syringe filled with a liquid substance thought to be a narcotic drug when he inspected the car.
Psychotropic pills and methamphetamine,’ a substance included on the drug schedule, were among the goods seized, according to the laboratory report. Amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are included in Schedule 5 of the Federal Law on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and its modifications, were also found in the suspect’s sample, according to the report of the General Department of Forensic Evidence, which investigated it.
The suspect acknowledged during questioning that he was under the influence of psychotropic drugs when he operated the vehicle and that the collision with the concrete barrier on Emirates Road was the result of his abrupt turn. He further stated that he had the confiscated goods to consume them.
