Setting a Record, King Abdulaziz Port Handles 20,645 Containers on a Single Ship

RIYADH: The King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam recently reached a significant milestone in the handling of containers, demonstrating the significant expansion of Saudi Arabia’s maritime industry. By managing 20,645 standard containers on a single vessel, the Cosco Shipping Aquarius 036E, the port recently set a new record. This accomplishment emphasises how vital the port is to the flow of commerce and the logistics industry.

The objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which are to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub linking three continents, are in line with this development. It also shows how well the Saudi Ports Authority, or Mawani, has done in boosting port productivity and fortifying the Kingdom’s connections with international markets, both of which have aided in the promotion of domestic exports.

As part of an ongoing infrastructure development plan supported by SR7 billion ($1.86 billion) in investment from commercial support contracts with Saudi Global Ports Co., a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, King Abdulaziz Port recently added 21 coastal and bridge cranes. Eighty electric trucks will be supplied to the port as part of a historic agreement with the Chinese company SANY. This is the largest single contract for such vehicles that the Chinese company has ever signed.
