According to Minnesota officials on Monday, a man who is charged with the murder of a Democratic state legislator and her husband and the injury of another state politician and his spouse also reportedly tried to murder two other state senators.
According to US Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, Vance Luther Boelter, 57, who is accused of killing Minnesota Democrat Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, carried out “truly chilling” attacks against the residences of three other state senators.
According to authorities, Mr. Boelter had planned a more extensive attack, which they stopped after he reportedly conducted prior research on the victims and their families. He showed up in court Monday afternoon to face six federal crimes, and if convicted, he may be executed.
On Monday afternoon, Mr. Boelter showed up for court in St. Paul wearing an orange jumpsuit. He stated that he will have a federal defence attorney since he cannot pay one. During the brief hearing, Mr. Boelter stated that he earns around $540 a week, has seven automobiles, and has savings of between $20,000 and $30,000.
During a news briefing on Monday, officials described how the Hortmans were slain and how Minnesota state senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, were shot many times in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Minneapolis suburbs. Additionally, they disclosed that Mr. Boelter is charged with six federal offences, several of which carry the death sentence.
