According to Minnesota officials, an inquiry into a woman’s death at the hands of a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has been blocked by the FBI. The death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who was shot in her car on Wednesday, has sparked protests in Minneapolis’ streets.
The US vice president stated that the probe is a federal matter, despite Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s accusations that the Trump administration is preventing state officials from participating in the case.
Local officials maintain the woman posed no threat, while the Trump government claims the ICE agent was acting in self-defence. According to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Good was attempting to run over the ICE agent in her automobile when the agent shot her many times. The event will be investigated by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the FBI first consented to a cooperative inquiry with state representatives, but later changed its mind and refused to provide the state with documents and evidence.
According to a statement from the BCA’s superintendent, Drew Evans, the agency has “reluctantly withdrawn” from the investigation because it could not obtain all relevant case materials and evidence.
