According to The Kremlin, Russia’s President has Declared an Orthodox Easter Ceasefire with Ukraine

After Kyiv also proposed a pause in hostilities, the Kremlin announced on Thursday night that Russian President Vladimir Putin had declared a ceasefire with Ukraine for the duration of the Orthodox Easter holidays. “By the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief..V.V. Putin, in connection with the approaching Orthodox feast of Easter (the Resurrection of Christ), a ceasefire is declared from 16:00 (13:00 GMT) on 11 April until the end of the day on 12 April 2026,” the Kremlin’s statement read. Kyiv had also proposed a pause in hostilities.

Previous statements made by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that the Ukrainian capital is willing to consider the possibility of an Easter truce. The Julian calendar, which is used by Orthodox churches in Russia and Ukraine, marks the date of Easter as the 12th of April.

A truce that lasted for thirty hours was unilaterally established by Putin at Easter of last year, but both sides accused the other of breaking the ceasefire.Previous statements made by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that the Ukrainian capital is willing to consider the possibility of an Easter truce.
