After the US and Israel’s devastating assault on Iran, Middle Eastern airlines have canceled or rerouted flights. Citing safety concerns, airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, Wizz Air, and British Airways have reduced their flights to Middle Eastern destinations.
The attacks on Saturday targeted locations throughout Iran, including the capital city of Tehran. Iran has been charged with carrying out retaliatory attacks against Israel and a number of other countries that host US bases in the region, resulting in the deaths of civilians.
In response to allegations of explosions, the UK Foreign Office has advised British nationals in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take immediate shelter.
The strike was launched for a number of reasons, including regime change and the failure to come to an agreement to restrict Iran’s nuclear program, according to US President Donald Trump. International air traffic is avoiding the area, according to flight-tracking data, while Iranian airspace has been restricted.
British Airways has canceled its flights to Amman, Jordan, on Saturday, as well as to Tel Aviv and Bahrain until Wednesday. Due to a technical problem with the aircraft, unrelated to the military operation, passengers on Friday’s 20:00 flight to Doha returned to Heathrow after the plane turned back halfway through the trip.
