Amazon’s alleged intention to inform its customers about the price impact of Donald Trump’s trade tariffs has drawn criticism from the White House, which has described it as a “hostile” political move. Amazon informed The Washington Post that it has investigated breaking down prices for users of Amazon Haul, a budget website it introduced in the US last year to rival Temu and Shein.
However, it denied that its leading e-commerce site had been considering such a move. However, the White House’s decision to launch an offensive over the report shows how much pressure it is under over its proposed import levies, which experts claim would raise consumer costs and raise the likelihood of a recession.
News Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that she had spoken with the president about Amazon’s alleged actions and asserted that it was “another reason why Americans should buy American” during a news conference commemorating the president’s 100th day in office.
“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” she stated. “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” Since retaking office in January, Trump has increased tariffs, which he claims would boost manufacturing and US tax income.
