According to a BBC investigation, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor acquired millions of pounds from an oligarch using money from a company connected to criminal activity. Through his attorneys, Kazakh billionaire Timur Kulibayev informed the BBC that he purchased Andrew’s former property with a loan from Enviro Pacific Investments.
Italian prosecutors came to the conclusion that the company had accepted money from a bribery scheme in 2007. The oligarch used money from Enviro Pacific to purchase Sunninghill Park in Berkshire from the then-prince for £15 million a few weeks after the final payment was made.
One of the most powerful figures in Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector, Kulibayev is the son-in-law of the country’s former president. Additionally, the BBC has uncovered that an Italian businessman admitted to bribing the oligarch in another case. According to Kulibayev’s attorneys, he has never engaged in corruption or bribery, and the money utilized to purchase Sunninghill Park was totally legal.
The disclosures raise concerns about whether the then-prince may have unintentionally profited from criminal proceeds and if he and his advisors carried out the necessary legal checks to prevent this.
