According to local authorities in Ogun State, Nigeria, former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua sustained injuries in a car accident that killed two people on Monday. According to police, the incident occurred on a busy section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which links Ogun to Lagos’ business district, at approximately 11 a.m. (5 a.m. ET).
Joshua, who has family in Ogun, only received “minor bruises,” but according to Boluwatife, the driver and two other people in the car with him perished. According to Ogun officials, the deceased were foreign nationals.
Joshua competed for Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics and won a gold medal in the super heavyweight division. He previously held three of the four major world championship titles in boxing.
Just over a week had passed since he defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul via knockout in their heavyweight fight in Miami on December 19. During the altercation, Joshua shattered Paul’s jaw. Paul wrote on X, “Life is much more important than boxing.” “I am praying for AJ, the people affected by today’s tragic accident, and the lives lost.
