Indian police detained a local YouTuber on accusations of espionage for Pakistan. According to reports, Jyoti Malhotra, a travel influencer from the northern Indian state of Haryana, visited the adjacent nation many times; her most recent visit was in March 2025.
She allegedly spoke with a Pakistan High Commission officer who was removed from India earlier this month, according to Haryana police. According to the YouTuber’s father, she travelled to Pakistan after obtaining the required authorisations, refuting claims that she was a spy. Ms. Malhotra has 133,000 Instagram followers and 377,000 YouTube subscribers, and she describes herself on social media as a “modern girl with old ideas.
Officers, however, have questioned how she paid for her international travels. Her films show her visiting Bangladesh, China, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. She has also travelled to a number of Indian locations and sites of worship. According to the police, this goes against her known source of money.
According to the police, Ms. Malhotra maintained constant communication with a Pakistani national and communicated with “Pakistani intelligence operatives”.
The superintendent of police in the Hisar district of Haryana, Shashank Kumar Sawan, informed the ANI news agency that Ms. Malhotra is also being looked into for any connections to the Pahalgam incident.
