According to a statement from Jolie’s representatives, the actress and former special envoy to the UN Refugee Agency, Angelina Jolie, visited the Rafah Crossing on Friday while on a humanitarian tour to Egypt.
Her visit coincides with Israel’s announcement that it will halt the activities of numerous humanitarian organizations operating in the Gaza Strip. I spoke with humanitarian organizations that are making every effort to get over the obstacles and limitations in order to send essential aid into Gaza. In a statement, Jolie stated, “I walked through a large warehouse full of items that were denied entry, most of them medical.
Israel’s action coincides with a warning from ten nations that circumstances in the enclave “remain catastrophic” and that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is experiencing renewed deterioration.”
The UN and aid organizations have denied Israel’s assertion that its registration requirements are meant to stop Hamas from abusing foreign aid. Israel and the US State Department have both said that there is no proof of mass theft by Hamas, despite an assessment conducted by the US government earlier this year.
