As Israel promises to keep striking the Islamic Republic due to its nuclear program, Iranians are terrified and are evacuating the larger cities, including Tehran, in search of safer places.
An individual who lives in Saadat Abad, a posh neighbourhood in north Tehran that has been affected by Israeli attacks, told CNN that they heard explosions all night long, some of which were so strong that they rocked their apartment complex. The resident requested anonymity out of fear for their safety, as did several Iranians who talked to CNN.
After smelling smoke from an adjacent building that had also been attacked, inhabitants fled to the bottom floor, causing mayhem, according to the resident. Families with little children found it challenging to maintain their composure.
Since Tehran, the capital of Iran, lacks contemporary bomb shelters like Israel does, the city must rely on tunnels, basements, or older shelters from the 1980s Iran-Iraq conflict, which was the last time the nation experienced such a grave national emergency.
Mehdi Chamran, the head of Tehran’s City Council, told reporters on Sunday that “there were no shelters in Tehran, so people went into basements.” He also said that the metro may be a refuge “in extreme crisis,” but that “we would need to shut down the system.
