As the New Boss Strives to Save Expenses Nestle Will Eliminate 16,000 Jobs

Nestle, a massive food and beverage company, announced that it will lay off 16,000 employees over the course of the next two years as Philipp Navratil, the company’s new CEO, pushes for “highest potential returns” in its goods.

According to Mr Navratil, the Swiss company needs to “change faster” in order to keep up with the times and embrace a “performance mindset” that does not tolerate losing market share to competitors.

After being sacked in September for having a personal involvement with an employee, former CEO Laurent Freixe was replaced by him. As Nestle revealed improved sales numbers for the first nine months of 2025, selling more goods across its main categories, such as coffee and confections, it also disclosed job layoffs on Thursday.

Nestle, the biggest food and beverage packaging firm in the world, is the owner of hundreds of brands, such as Maggi, KitKat, and Nescafe. Within the next two years, Nestle intends to eliminate 12,000 white-collar jobs in addition to 4,000 other positions overall, the company stated.

According to the food giant, the layoffs are part of a continuous cost-cutting initiative that will save it about 1 billion SFr (£940m) a year. Mr Navratil stated: “We are cultivating a culture that rewards success, encourages a performance attitude, and does not tolerate losing market share.
