Since US and Israeli troops attacked Iranian objectives, murdering Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and destroying Iran’s military and security forces, Tehran has started a missile and drone bombardment campaign against the region on an unprecedented scale.
Iranian missiles had hit targets in Israel and the Gulf, and an Iranian drone targeted a British station in Cyprus. This led Prime Minister Keir Starmer to let US forces use UK bases to hit Iranian missile installations in response.
Also, NATO’s air defense systems shot down two Iranian ballistic missiles that were either on their way to or already in Turkish airspace. This is something that Tehran has never done before.
Europe, which is closer than ever to the blast radius of this war, has the obvious question: may Iran attack continental Europe next? And could NATO stop it if it tried? There are three types of long-range weapons that Iran has, and they might reach a large part of Europe. The Khorramshahr ballistic missile is the most dangerous since it can carry a warhead that weighs up to 1,800 kg.
