After taking the oath of office as prime minister of Canada on Friday, former central banker Mark Carney declared right away that he could cooperate with US President Donald Trump, who has promised tariffs that may destroy the Canadian economy. Justin Trudeau, who had a tense and frequently icy relationship with Trump, is replaced by Carney. Carney, 59, stated that his strategy will be distinct.
We have a lot of respect for President Trump, who has prioritized several crucial subjects. After being sworn in, he told reporters, “We understand his agenda,” adding that he had collaborated with Trump at meetings abroad.

Carney called the Trump administration’s idea of annexing Canada “crazy” and stated that he had no urgent plans to speak with the president. In order to cope with Washington, he reorganized his 24-member cabinet, eliminating nearly half of the ministerial posts that Trudeau had left him.
Current Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne took over after Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc transferred to the international trade ministry. Melanie Joly, the Foreign Minister, remains in her position.
