According to an insider who spoke to the BBC, chip titans Nvidia and AMD have agreed to give the US government 15% of their sales of semiconductors in China. The agreement is a component of an agreement to get export licenses to the second-largest economy in the world.
We adhere to the guidelines established by the US government for our involvement in global markets. Nvidia told the BBC, “We hope export control rules will allow America to compete in China and worldwide, even though we haven’t shipped H20 to China in months.
America cannot repeat 5G and lose telecommunication leadership,” Nvidia added in a statement to the BBC. If we race, America’s [artificial intelligence] technology stack might become the norm worldwide.
According to the deal, AMD will provide the US government the same percentage of its MI308 chip income as Nvidia will from its H20 chip sales in China, as first reported by the Financial Times. Nvidia recently said that it will remove a prior prohibition by Washington on the sale of its H20 processors to Beijing due to security concerns.
