The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been arrested by police on suspicion of assault, before he goes on trial in Oslo on Tuesday on 38 allegations, including the rape of four women.
The 29-year-old Marius Borg Høiby was remanded for four weeks. Police said the newest claims against him were holding a knife and breaking a restraining order, and there was a risk of reoffending.
His arrest on Sunday marks the fourth time he has been detained by police since August 2024, when he was accused of beating a lady he had been having a relationship with. He acknowledged some of the less serious accusations against him but rejected the most serious ones. It is the latest controversy to beset the royal family.
Norwegians are also coming to terms with findings that his mother corresponded for three years with late sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014. Crown Princess Mette Marit acknowledged having poor judgment when it became apparent that she had a close relationship with Epstein. She described her interactions with Jeffrey Epstein as “simply embarrassing” and offered her “deep sympathy and solidarity with the victims of the abuses committed by Jeffrey Epstein.
