According to a study written by Democrats, US President Donald Trump’s transactional foreign policy and withdrawal from the international arena are causing the US to lose strategic ground to China.
The research, which examines Trump’s first six months in office, cautions that Washington’s capacity to compete with China has been “significantly undermined” by his administration.
The “chaotic gutting” of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US Agency for Global Media, which is in charge of Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, as well as staff reductions at the US Department of State are highlighted in the report as actions that have diminished US power and influence.
China is a “strategic challenge distinct from any in our nation’s history,” according to a study issued Monday by Democratic members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The research outlines China’s “long-term strategy to unseat the United States as the world’s leading superpower.
US Senator Jeanne Shaheen stated in a statement that “China is expanding its influence, forming new relationships, and reshaping the global order to its advantage while President Trump retreats from every corner of the globe – attacking allies, cutting America’s diplomatic tools, and embracing adversaries.
