In order to establish Dubai as a worldwide centre for the green economy, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has given DEWA specific instructions and goals, which are emphasised by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).
Al Tayer emphasised that Dewa used the best international experiences and practises when developing the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model. This model has been developed under Dubai’s legal and technological requirements. Over ten years, Dewa’s implementation of the Independent Producer model has drawn investments totaling Dhs43.6 billion.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park projects, which Dewa is implementing using the IPP model, are being enticed to international investors and developers by Dubai’s regulatory and legislative frameworks that permit the private sector to participate in energy generation projects. Our IPWP initiatives are in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to establish Dubai as one of the top three global cities and double the size of the city’s economy in ten years. Additionally, they support the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which call for producing 100% of energy from clean sources by the year 2050, according to Al Tayer.
