Emma Watson, a former “Harry Potter” actress, was caught speeding and received a six-month driving penalty. On the evening of July 31 of last year, the 35-year-old British actress and campaigner was caught speeding at 38 mph in a 30-mph zone while operating her blue Audi in Oxford, England.
According to PA Media, she was fined £1,044 ($1,400) and barred from driving in the High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, but she failed to show up for the brief hearing. A speeding case involving Watson’s former “Harry Potter” co-star Zoë Wanamaker was taken up by the court shortly after Watson’s case was heard.
According to PA, the renowned stage actress, who portrayed Quidditch referee Madam Hooch in the first movie in the franchise, was given the same punishment as Watson for being found driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone in Berkshire, southeast England, in August of last year.
Before the speeding accidents, both actresses had nine penalty points on their licenses, the news agency said. District Judge Arvind Sharma approved three more points on their licenses on Wednesday for the most recent offences, which resulted in compulsory six-month suspensions under UK law.
