On the opening day of the 13th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024), experts spoke about a range of topics about the interaction between humans and machines in journalism. The Sharjah Press Club arranged three events on the first day that focused on applying robotics, AI, and technology in the media.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Wasmy moderated a session titled Storytelling: Human Communication in the Digital Age. The panellists included Dr. Fatima Al-Salem, Director General of Kuwait News Agency; Nawal Al-Jabr, Chief Editor of Al Riyadh newspaper; and Sawsan Al-Shaer, writer and media personality from Bahrain.
The media experts examined the significance of storytelling in the media and its function in information transmission. They also looked at how governments are using social media to tell stories and how to apply storytelling in the digital age, all the while emphasising the methods and resources available for creating digital government narratives.
The panellists discussed their experiences working as freelancers for news organisations and in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. In addition to discussing the difficulties governments encounter when integrating storytelling in digital media, they emphasised the significance of fostering trust and fortifying the bond between governments and citizens. We also discussed the use of storytelling in marketing and media campaigns and the way that traditional and digital media can be blended to deliver political messages through what is now called “hybrid media.
