The Impending Fees for Storing Old Photos and Videos have Angered Snapchat Users

Since the well-known messaging app Snapchat became the latest digital company to charge for a service that consumers used to enjoy for free, one-star ratings and a feeling of unfairness have dominated internet discourse.

In September, Snap, the app’s parent company, said that users who have more than five gigabytes of previously shared photos and videos saved as Memories will begin to incur fees.

Many people consider these old postings as a glimpse into the past, which has led some to accuse the company of “corporate greed” in social media posts and unfavorable reviews on the app stores for Apple and Google.

For smartphones, Snap has contrasted its paid storage plans with those offered by Google and Apple. Users can also download their Memories, which for some contain tens of terabytes of data, to their device as an alternative for those who do not want to pay.

The company informed the BBC that the changes would only impact a small percentage of users. Although it was “never easy to transition from receiving a service for free to paying for it,” it was also indicated that users would find the expense worthwhile.
