Gas Prices in the US Climb Beyond $4 for the First Time Since 2022

As gasoline prices continue to rise due to the ongoing war in Iran, the average price of gas at the pump in the US has surpassed $4 for the first time in over four years. As to the AAA motoring organization, the average price of ordinary gasoline across the country has risen to $4.02 per gallon, which is over $1 higher than before the conflict started. Diesel will set you back about $1.70 more as well.

Energy production and transportation across the Middle East has been severely hindered or halted due to the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway, over the past month. Crude oil, a key component in gasoline and diesel, has seen a dramatic increase in price.A major tenet of US President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign promise was a reduction in gas costs.

The current increase, according to the president, is just a temporary setback that will not have long-lasting consequences. High petrol costs, however, are causing economists to sound the alarm that consumers may cut down on spending, which might have a negative impact on the economy.
