In Order to Purchase TikTok, Trump Claims to have ‘a Group of Extremely Rich People

TikTok, the video-sharing software that was outlawed in the US due to allegations that it constituted a national security threat, has a buyer, according to President Donald Trump. Trump claimed to have a group of “very wealthy people” who would be prepared to purchase the platform in an interview with Fox News. He teasingly said, “I’ll tell you in about two weeks.”

Trump told Fox that he believed President Xi Jinping “will probably do it” even though the Chinese government would need to approve a transaction. Trump postponed the implementation of a legislation requiring TikTok to sell for a third time this month.

According to the most recent extension, the parent firm, ByteDance, must agree to sell the platform by September 17th. TikTok has been approached by the BBC for comment. When the White House and China argued over Trump’s tariffs in April, a prior agreement to sell TikTok to an American buyer fell through. It’s unclear whether the buyer Trump claims to have lined up now is the same person who was on the waiting list three months ago.
