India: Following The tourist attack, PM Modi Promises to Continue the Development in Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that India is dedicated to working to improve its troubled region of Jammu and Kashmir, while accusing Pakistan, its neighbour, of attempting to ruin life there with the April tourist assault.

His remarks came during his first trip to the Himalayan region since 26 tourists were killed by assailants in the well-known Pahalgam area, which sparked fighting between the nuclear-armed neighbours that ended in a truce last month.

In statements following the opening of infrastructure projects, Modi stated, “The attack will not hinder the atmosphere of development that emerged in Jammu and Kashmir… I will not let development stop here.

One of the most important of these was a $5 billion rail connection that has been in the works for over 40 years and includes the tallest railway arch bridge in the world, connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India.

India and Pakistan fought fiercely for four days last month before agreeing to a truce. India has accused Pakistan of supporting the April attack, a charge Islamabad has rejected.
